about

Folk Roots 4-piece The Humbuckin’ Pickups leave no stone unturned with their new single – Pound of
Flesh. With the help of Golden Guitar winner Pete Denahy’s trademark fiddle, the Maldon Minstrel and
Troubadour Foundation award winners deliver a straight up, poignant earworm.
This single is the second to drop from the band’s newly announced forthcoming third album “Just Like
Winter”, recorded, mixed and mastered by Isaac Barter. Described by Andrew Patterson (Troubadour
Foundation) as “the best band no one has heard of,” The Humbuckin’ Pickups have performed for years,
honing their craft across the country in festivals, pubs, and house concerts. Their iconic four-part harmonies
evoke a unique feeling of rawness and candidness, while the songs are always presented with a
sharpness, warmth, and enduring self-aware perspective.
From the band: “We are thrilled about our upcoming single and album launch. These are our best songs
and recordings to date, and we are so excited to get back on the road and play for you all!”

LYRICS

They may take their pound of flesh
But not three quarters of an ounce
Coz that’s my soul and it’s miles away from here
Over valleys over mountains on the inside I am shoutin’
take me home to the place that I hold dear

These walls are closing in
Five days a week they try and fence me in
But I’m not that way inclined
If you catch me staring it’s coz I see it in my mind

They may take their pound of flesh
But not three quarters of an ounce
Coz that’s my soul and it’s miles away from here
Over valleys over mountains on the inside I am shoutin’
take me home to the place that I hold dear

Trees are tall and the birds all sing
A clear stream where you can see the fish all swim
A gravel road and a little shack
A water tank and a neat wood stack

I’ve lived in cities lived in suburbs lived in tents
Lived by the ocean and by the river banks
But I guess I knew that everywhere I went
It wasn’t home.

They may take their pound of flesh
But not three quarters of an ounce
Coz that’s my soul and it’s miles away from here
Over valleys over mountains on the inside I am shoutin’
take me home to the place that I hold dear
